IMSW Dark Markets Design Workshop
June 16, 15:00-17:00
The IMSW Dark Markets Design Workshop is an interactive session aimed at demonstrating how social scientists can leverage design to make sense of digital economies, particularly the hidden or opaque structures of markets. Scheduled as a pre-reception kickoff event, this flash workshop will introduce up to 30 participants to design methods that go beyond traditional social research approaches. By exploring "dark" markets, such as online ad exchanges, through facilitated design tools, the workshop will illuminate how platform economic things function within organizational contexts.
This session will showcase how social scientists can integrate intangible design into their research methods, expanding both analytical frameworks and career opportunities. Facilitated by Addie McGowan (Edinburgh Futures Institute), Annmarie Ryan (University of Limerick), Donald MacKenzie (University of Edinburgh), Koray Caliskan (Parsons School of Design), and Teea Palo (University of Edinburgh), this workshop will demonstrate how design can be a powerful market and platform study method, attracting interdisciplinary engagement and fostering innovative approaches to socio-economic analyses. No prior design or computational experience is required.
This pre-workshop event requires reservation.
