Abiel’s research interest concerns how entrepreneurship is facilitated by deregulation and institutional change. More specifically, he investigates the dynamic development of the Swedish school system, at elementary- and high school level, since the privatization in early 1990s. Theoretically, his research is based at the intersection of organization, entrepreneurship, and institutional theory. He investigates the competitive effects from privatization on the formation, growth, and decline of firms that are strongly influenced by institutional rules and norms.
