Utan titel (gul) / Untitled (yellow)
In his work, Håkan Rehnberg investigates and explores his own painting technique: oil paint on sandblasted acrylic glass. A technique that has points of contact with American color field painting, a style of abstract painting that emerged in New York City during the 1940s and 1950s, inspired by European modernism (notable painers are Barnett Newman and Mark Rothko). Rehnberg's technique also insersects with the abstract painting of the artist Gerhard Richter, often regarded as one of the most important contemporary German artists. Utan titel (gul) / Untitled (yellow), 1992, by Håkan Rehnberg is installed in the president's office at SSE.
Håkan Rehnberg was born 1953 in Göteborg and currently lives and works in Stockholm. His art balances on the border between revealing and concealing. Color is used as camouflage or to highlight what is not visible to the naked eye. Rehnberg likes to use plexiglass, which frees the paintings from the weight and texture of the canvas and emphasizes the fluid and indefinite character of the painting. He has exhibited widely both in Sweden and internationally and has been a member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts since 2000.
